John and John’s Sightings – 16th September
Late August and early September:
Many summer migrates still about with plenty of young in tow, especially Yellow Wagtails which seem to be everywhere. Linnet, Goldfinches and Reed Bunting numbers growing and never far away from a puddle. Little Egret and Little Grebe near the thirty mark and Great Crested Grebe in single figures.
Mid to late August very impressive numbers of Whimbrel , early September Curlew and Shelduck in the hundreds.
Waders growing in numbers especially Lapwing, Grey Plover, Ringed Plover and Avocet.
Several Common Sandpiper with young along with Coot, Moor Hen and Mute Swan.
Buzzard, Marsh Harrier and Kestrel all in double figures, Merlin and Hobby about also many groups of Hirundines gathering and moving off.
