Midsummer’s evening at Elmley
Posted 29th June 2014
Saturday 21st June
Enjoyed a lovely evening stroll to the first bird hide where we were greeted by a raucous flock of black-headed gulls, avocets, and a single ringed plover. On the way back we watched a barn owl hunting over the field behind the hide. Reed buntings flitted across the path, reed warblers sang in the reeds, and everything was outperformed by the chorus of marsh frogs, which made us giggle.
Apparently some idiot we passed speeding down the entrance road had managed to runover two lapwing! We plenty of marsh harriers, a pair of yellow wagtails and redshank zipping about. The sunset was superb, even the cranes at Sheerness had a certain grace about them, such was the twilight.
